Thomas Powell joined Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in the fall of 2021. He is married to Maranda Powell, and they have four sons: Matthew, Micah, Brayden, and Caleb. Brother Thomas is the teacher of our mixed adult Sunday School class, and he was appointed the Director of Ministry Operations in January 2023. In the Director role, he assists with the planning and administration of the operational objectives and initiatives.

Brother Thomas surrendered to God’s call to preach the Gospel in October of 2000. He was ordained to the Gospel Ministry at Providence Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA, where he had been attending church since he was seven years old. Having been raised in a Christian home, he was led to the Lord at the age of six by his father, Stephen Powell. Brother Thomas has served the Lord as an evangelist, missionary with Worldwide Radio Ministries, and as senior pastor of two churches in Chesapeake, VA, including Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church where he was the founding pastor. With over 20 years in the ministry, he looks forward to the Lord using his experience and talents in the work at Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, as they grow together in the Lord!
